The DGAM team attended in the 12th Conservation & Presentation of Mosaics conference, a triennial international event that gathers specialists from around the world to discuss current research and practice in mosaics conservation. It was held in Sassari and Alghero, in Sardinia, from 27 - 31 of October, at the invitation of the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici per le Province di Sassari e Nuoro.
The Syrian team consist of - Director of Reconstructive and Scientific Labs in Syria ( Dr Komait Abdellah) with the retsorers Borhan al Zaraa, Mohamad al Kaid and Maher Jbay and experts from Jordan, Lybia and Tunisia.
Dr Komait Abdellah Delivered a presenations of mosaic conservation and restoration in Syria during the crises despite the difficult circumstances, he also explained the DGAM policy in order to preserve and protect the Syrian heritage and the mosaics conservation works between the end of 2012 and 2014.
Both Borhan al Zaraa and Mohamad al Kaid presented the mosaic conservation works in Ummayed mosque in cooperation with the Faculty of Archaeology students in Damascus unviersity, he also delivered a posterof the mentioned mosaique.
Mr. Maher Jobay, presented a new mosaic recovered from Ain Al Helwa, in Latakia and explained about the conseravtion works done in Damascus citadel and Shahbaa city.
The Syrian team received the committee’s warm thanks for their incredible efforts in such challenging times.
At the end of the conserence Dr. Abdallah Komait, was elected as a member in the Administrative office of the International Committee for the Maintenance the mosaics in the world.
