Dr. Maamoun Abdulkarim, Director-General of Antiquities and Museums, visited Tel Mozan and the archaeological sites in the regions of Al-Qamishli, Al-Malkieh on July 2016, accompanied by the colleagues in archaeological Departments of Al-Hasakeh , Al-Qamishli, and institutions of the local community which are concerned with the protection of the archaeological sites in Al-jazzirah.
They visited the archaeological site in Tel Mozan, which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Al-Qamishli area, which the US mission has worked with for many years, and depended its research on the existence of an important kingdom, which date back its buildings to more than 3000-1400 BC.
During this visit they found that the site is in excellent condition, it was not destroyed, because the activities of the local community, which has had a significant role of protection this site, and hundreds of other sites against vandalism and smuggling gangs.
Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums thanks the sincere efforts made by the institutions and civil associations, which play a powerful role in the protection of the Syrian archaeological heritage in these difficult situations, in cooperation with the General-Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.
