The Antiquities of Lattakia excavated the royal crypt connects the city with the seaside starting from the National Museum (khan al-Dukhan).
The excavation discovered the entire stairs /14 steps/ down to the beginning of the secret crypt, about four meters deep, carved in the rock, and headed towards the sea from the east to the west. The crypt continues to unknown way which is believed to be towards the seashore.
The Antiquities will continue the excavation till revealing the whole crypt located in the north-west of the museum's garden, in order to show and demonstrate the purpose and function of its creation, its era, way of building, and whether there is links with other unknown tunnels or secret rooms might be located inside.
These excavations are going on in parallel with the museum's excavation in the internal courtyard (patio). The results will re-document and re-chronicle all archaeological levels with all first classes and the building foundations. It will also show whether there is a real link with the secret crypt to know the museum history, functions and circumstances.
