The extremes groups has destroyed 90% Sufi Muslim shrines and tombs in the Countryside of Aleppo (those not registered as archaeological sites on the lists of the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums of Syria - DGAM).
A DGAM monitoring team said that these shrines and tombs are subject to destruction most of them built on the top of the Tells and some of them located at the outskirts of villages.
All the shrines in Menbij
(on the eastern Aleppo plateau in northern Aleppo), such as Meqam Shiekh Aqil al Manbaji
one of the most important Muslim mystics the area, with all the shrines around the Byzantine church located along the road to Najim castle, in addition to six Mamluki tombs known by Shihab al Din tombs in front of the castle have been among the group's main targets.
They have also destroyed all the shrines in Ezaz
North of Aleppo by bombs, including the Sufi tombs in Archaeological Tells such as: Tell Ezaz, Tell Sawran, Tell Shiekh Rieh, Tell Dabik, Tell Akhtarin
and Tomb of Nabi Daoud
in Dwebek village, which have a spiritual value within the local community.
Reports assumed that all the tombs in al Bab
district and Zerba nahiyah, Hader, Atareb, Tell al Daman, Maskanh, al Khasfa, Der Hafir
were totally destroyed.
