The UN adopt resolution banned
all trade in antiquities from Syria
The United Nations Security Council adopt a legally binding resolution n 2199 banned all trade in antiquities from Syria, the resolution targeting the ability of all terrorist groups to generate financing. It have been proposed by Russia and is supported by the United States, China, Britain and France, and was  approved by  the 15 council members.

This resolution ban all trade in antiquities from Syria, which mirrors similar measures passed by the UNSC ten years' ago relating to antiquities from Iraq.

It worth to mentioned that Islamic State and others "are generating income from engaging directly or indirectly in the looting and smuggling of cultural heritage items to carry out terrorist attacks".

Since 2013, the DGAM in collaboration with UNESCO and other international cultural institutions demanded in all their activities, to adopt a resolution banned all trade in antiquities from Syria, during the events of the Regional training on Syrian cultural heritage- addressing the issue of illicit trafficking in Amman organized by UNESCO Amman office, in the technical high level meeting on Syrian archaeological heritage in Paris which was attended by Mr Lakhdar Brahimi, the previous UN-Arab League envoy to Syria, and it was also one of the recommendations of the UNESCO International Experts Meeting to Safeguard Syria's Cultural heritage on 26-28 May,2014.

The DGAM   thanks all the contributors who help us in protecting the Syrian antiquities from theft and looting.
