General-Director of the Antiquities & Museums (DGAM) Dr. Maamoun Abdulkarim made field visits to the archaeological sites at NE of Syria during the last two weeks of July, 2015.
During the visit tenth of archaeological sites had been seen and several of meetings had been made with local community who engaged in denfending the archaeological heritage in the area.
The local community have shown their willingness to continue to protect the archaeological sites in these difficult circumstances against vandals and antiquities gangs. Local parties also, have expressed thier support to the scientific efforts done at the DGAM in protecting antiquities heritage.
For our part, the DGAM thanks all the efforts made by the local community in defensing hundreds of significants archaeological sites in the history of the archaeological researches, such as the Tell Urkesh, Tell Baydar, Chagar Bazar and Tell Leilan where tenth of national and international archaeological missions worked through long periods.
