Based on information provided by the DGAM office in Der Ez-Zor, the armed militants have been conducting excavations with heavy machinery in both tells for some time, as follows:
Tell Al Kasra:
For the last month, some illegal excavation works with heavy machinery. The large site, surrounded by town walls, is located 39-km north-west of Deir Ez-Zor, excavated by a national mission since 2006, to unveil several discoveries from the Byzantine period.
Tell As Sin:
For almost a month, diggings have been noticed in the Acropol area by heavy machinery. The site is located 10-km south-east of Deir Ez-Zor on hilly cliff of the left side of the Euphrates. The site is surrounded by a U-shaped wall facing the river as a natural closing protection. Sets of multi-formed tombs are distributed to the North and North-East of the site forming a large scale necropolis.
