DGAM received recent photos indicating works of sabotage in historic monuments in the site of Bara in Jabal ez-Zawiyeh in Rural Idlib, showing deliberate smashing of sarcophaguses in a pyramid tomb, or in other ground and pyramid tombs, which date to the Byzantine period.
Moreover, the photos show shrapnels of all site monuments stones, which have been aggressively taken off for illegal constructions, apparently using explosives and heavy machinery.
The photos can show impact of clashes on the outer façades of the pyramid tombs in Deir Sobat, and some spray inscriptions inside.
Since 2011, the site of Bara, as a part of some 40 Ancient Villages of Northern Syria, has been registered on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. In 2013, it was registered on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
