Post-Trauma Reconstruction - ICOMOS colloquium in Paris

The International Council on Monuments and Sites organized on March 4th, 2016 in Paris the International Colloquium on Post-Trauma Reconstruction.
The intention of the Colloquium was to create an opportunity to reflect on the challenges facing the transmission of cultural heritage in contemporary times.
The colloquium took place in two sessions: In the morning session a short keynote addressed on the theme “challenges facing cultural institutions in times of conflict: the interface between the international community of scholars/experts and indigenous resources of intellectual capital and expertise”.
In the afternoon the colloquium organized a small group discussion, where the general theme was “The influence/role of knowledge-based institutions, domestic and overseas” in responding to traumatic events.
The DGAM Director General Prof. Dr. Maamoun Abdulkarim gave a short keynote about the type of Damage to the Syrian Cultural Heritage because of the clashes, looting and destruction due to the takfiri ideology. He also presented the Initials damage assessment at Ancient City of Aleppo and Palmyra and the challenges faces the post war construction. He focused also on the recent Rehabilitation projects done by DGAM at Homs old city, Crac des chaevaliers and Maaloula.
