We, at DGAM, have received a new set of drone-shot photos from the ancient city of Palmyra of the ISIS-attacked monuments, mainly the sella of Bel Temple, Baalshamin Temple, the Triumphal Arch, the tower tombs, Athina al-Lat Lion Statue in the museum, as a result of a joint initiative between DGAM, the photographer Mr. Shadi Martak, and Mr. Yves Ubelmann of ICONEM Paris.
Fortunately, these photos indicate that the available architectural elements of the above-mentioned monuments are in a good condition and sufficient to lead very possible authentic restoration and consolidation works, with no need to clear reconstruction.
On the other hand, a team of DGAM experts of archaeologists, architects, and engineers have been in the ancient city for a few days to document and assess damages, in order to prepare an action plan for restoration and consolidation, with a full revision and support of UNESCO as Palmyra is enlisted in the World Heritage List.
