UNESCO sent emergency assessment experts mission to map the damages at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Palmyra from 24-26 June 2016.
The aim of the mission, that headed by the Director of WHC, was to make a rapid damage assessment and the protection measures to the museum and the archaeological site in order to provide the immediate international support and expertise.
At the end of the mission, the delegation visited the Minister of Culture Isam Khalil
and brief him on the results of their visit.
The mission will submit its report including the results and recommendations to the World Heritage Committee during its 40 session which will be hold in Istanbul Turkey on June 2016.
It’s worth to mentioned that the DGAM started immediately after Palmyra liberation to assess the damage inflicted on the ancient city along with its museum in order to be able to set plans and visions for emergency and urgent intervention through adopting a clear and scientific method.
